have you done this one before?

Post by Aldersmaine on Dec 28, 2012 2:04:31 GMT -6
Yes to a point. It was attempted a few years ago and went on for a few rounds but it died when one of the people in it decided they weren't my friend anymore lol...
Anyways it doesn't have to go the same route as before which is why i'm leaving the info fairly basic. BUT if you have questions about the world itself, i'm happy to answer.

I hope you're not talking about me lol. I never decided that, but I did fall off the map for a good long while.
Anyway, I get the distinct feeling there's something you WANT to tell me about his world lol.

I could talk about the world for ever and ever, lol but nothing in particular needs to be said.
Oh and no it wasn't you. xP

Ah good lol.
Okay then..
Okay this isn't about the world in the sense that I think you're asking but I still have a question.
This is a pretty heavy mythos in this work as per usual with you. I'm curious where your inspiration for it came from.

This is the one where the floaty bits start falling down, right?

Yes Quaddy the floating bits shall fall. lol
I'm not sure what inspired me other then FF12 in it's Purvama/floating lands. Other then that I just imagined a world that strife had hit such an intense high that it was manifesting physically in the world (as the dark cloud cover under the floating lands that prevents anyone from seeing the land below, for so long now that some doubt it's existence.)
I also had the idea that the lands were raised by people (not really sure who) in order to escape that cloud of hate. This required a great deal of magical power, yet they were in luck as the goddess Aladriel chose to aid the surviving humans. She's much like a Valkyrie in terms of respecting warriors and even claiming the souls of heroes for her chevaliers. So while it felt distasteful to her to aid in the fleeing humans even she understood that if she didn't help she would have no more heroes in the future to claim as her own.
Yay, for selfish gods.
She is actually sleeping somewhere on the floating lands, but she's stirring. The natural magic in the land itself is being drained away and returning to the lowlands. This is putting strain on her and she might wake up soon which won't necessarily be something to look forward to, lol.

So what happens if she wakes up?

|
Post by Aldersmaine on Dec 28, 2012 19:09:20 GMT -6
Well I would assume that if she were to fully awake the spell that keeps the floating lands "afloat" would be instantaneously voided, thus the lands would no longer be drifting downwards, but would FALL.

OHHHHHHH
Question: How high up are they?

Far enough that if it were earth they wouldn't clip the tip of Everest. Don't worry though. Aladriel is the Goddess of the New Star, her presence keeps the Floating lands temperate, save the lower floating lands that pass underneath the other floating lands and as such are shielded from the light of the New Star for a portion of the year, only surviving the harsh winter due to the light of the Leviathan Sun keeping the worst of the cold at bay.

Not TOO much, i just know the world enough that it has structure without being too clutchingly strict. BTW the magic level of this world is on a scale of 1 - 10 a 6.
Though most magic studies are restricted to nobles and royals there are some naturally gifted commoners.

I'm leaving it open, though Quaddy still remembers her old character, and I wouldn't mind her keeping him if she likes.

My character is the Prince of Helios. Not the heir, the spare. His brother Constantine is the heir, but he is nowhere near as popular as Zachary (well, his name is Xavier Zachary, but everyone calls him Zack) and may or may not attempt to take his brother down. We never got that far. All I know was that Zachary was supposed to end up giving up being a Prince and help save everyone when the Ishtar fall.
And then, in the next campfire, my character was supposed to have a necklace that held someone in a mirror...or something...

I know...I was just remembering stuff. Zachary was my favorite of the three characters. I might not give up royalty this time. I do know, however, that he is the kind to try to help people and his brother is the kind to never believe the magic is dying.
