Yay info dump! Sorry I've been quiet. We had another net outage. Not good in a house with 6 computers and a guy who runs a server.
Anyway, so this stem is new and kinda cool. Was the God King the only one to ever do that? Did he ever tell anyone?

He is the only person to ever take so much power in this way. there were people in the old world that did so from time to time. Worshipers she blessed her power to, chevaliers in mid mission who needed aid. The God King was once a grand priest in the order that worshiped Aladriel. He used his knowledge of her rituals to siphon off as much power as he could in order to dominate mankind under one rule.
He has spread the notion that the stems are useless ever since. Most people worship him and as such have never thought him to lie about such a trivial matter such as a useless stem that bears a powerful bloom.
700 years of godliness tends to leave people unquestioning sheep.

What if there were some that thought to use the stems by drying them and then smoking them after they were broken up and placed inside special smoking papers as a....recreational type of stimulant. Wouldn't that allow those people to use magic as well?

LOL Yeah I'd say it would be a mind blowing experience. if you smoked any part of the Ophanim for that matter. But as for magic use: Grinded into powder, even plucked from the ground would likely disrupt the link. Think of it kind of like a straw, once a straw is removed from the drink it is JUST a straw.
Aladriel's order were the only ones with the secret of how to take energy from the Ophanim back when they were more like floating motes of flame in the shape of flowers.
It's kind of vague in my head, sorry. The God King siphoned magic from what the Ophanim were originally before the floating lands came about. He recognized the possibilities for the stems and as such spread the thought of them being only useful for the next growth of a bloom. Besides, if we kept plucking hair follicles (metaphor alert) the lands would eventually go bald and without an outlet Aladriel's power might build and explode.

Hey, I had a thought earlier. Of all the things to describe about the Ophanim I'm not sensing they have a very memorable smell. Mostly because I haven't really seen it mentioned. I mean they're primarily in one of two forms, flower and seed. Flowers being almost unrivaled in the 'things that make you think about smells' category.
In short -and I admit it may be here and I missed it- what do Ophanim flowers smell like?

No, I hadn't actually thought of that, lol. wow dummy me.
I imagine Ophanim would smell like sweet cinders. Like a sweet yet burning type of smell. very unique.

Floating fire flowers...how alliterative. I'm not sure how you are considering it a... repetitive sound?.. but please do elaborate.

Would there be any magical negating items? I'm not sure if this has been covered or not.

Each of those words begins with 'F', ergo they are alliterative.

heh AH that's what Tileira was getting at.
And as for Magical Cancellation... Only when using the exact opposite type of power. There is no overall cancelling ability.

At least not on a large scale. Perhaps an aversion magic though, causing powers to backfire or go off target when targeting the item or person with the magic.

How many islands are there? And, do they have different names? I've been going through the other pages, and haven't been able to find anything other than Helios. Also, is this strictly about humans? I'm almost finished with my add, just need a little more information.

Yes this world only has humans. At least in the floating lands. Who knows what could have evolved in the several hundred years under the clouds with the absence of humankind.
The Floating Lands aka Ishtar:
Minaret: Highest land far north of Helios and Westerly, seat of the God-King's throne, and ultimate ruler of all lands. (something that is enforced only upon extremely circumstances).
Helios: Land furthest East and second highest, The summer country.
Ebb: Lowest land, The Winter country as it is constantly in the shadow of the other lands.
Westerly: Obviously the western most land, A land of wintery evenings and summery days.
Meridian: The middle most land in both height and direction. A forbidden holy land that is protected by the God king's power.
Austrael: Land in the south. A land of deserts and great jungles split by a mountain range.
---
Helios, Austrael and Westerly have been at war off and on for centuries.
Ebb is neutral yet is also often used as a battle ground.
Minaret is a seemingly serene land devote to the worship of the God-King, few other then pilgrims and holy peoples travel to and from this land.
Meridian has not been step foot upon by any other then the God king himself for a few centuries.
