Yeah...I don't have much in the way of GPs. I don't seem to accumulate them easily at all...
It was about helping me with this and discussing Witch Hunt as you wanted to do. Wait...I think it was about Rebel, actually. So it's this, Rebel, and Witch Hunt. I really need your help with this one. I'm, like I said, having a hard time figuring out how Rei would handle this. Lyn (Eve) would put the good of the world above her own feelings, but Rei...might not. She's much more hot-headed.

Whether there is a god, or not; whether there is a greater entity in the universe and beyond, or not. Who is to say that throughout the history of our kind; the energy of our consciousnesses hasn’t created something more?
Many people who believe in ghosts, do not believe that all are souls trapped upon the earth. Instead they are believed to be impressions left behind by the strong nature of the events and or persons with whom the ghostly specters are connected to.
If this is the case; would it not be reasonable to think that there could be a universe of conscious energy; a universe formed by our very own consciousness? A universe created by us, and all those that came before, after physical death?
Just... A Thought. Maybe something to play with in a future campfire.

Have you looked into tulpa, beast?

What is Tulpa?
|
|
|
Post by Quaddy on Feb 5, 2013 1:02:52 GMT -6
Tulpa...Tibetan Buddhist thoughtform. The idea that (putting it loosely) powerful enough human belief can construct what is being believed and bring it into existence.
Those of you who watch Supernatural...the episode with that farmhouse and the evil farmer who kept changing shape to reflect the story (waaaay back in season one)...that was about Tulpa.

Oh! That sounds very interesting, I'll have to look into it.
I really just see random things and make connections that turn into odd thought patterns.

We all do. It's because we are WRITERS! (It sounds better when you say AC-TORS, but we're not actors, so....blech)

Also pretty much exactly what you said is at the basis of a lot of Continental philosophy Beast. If you ever read anything about Idealism, it's a sort of less extreme version too.

I think I would enjoy philosophy so much more if I didn't have the most horridly auditory learning habit. I can't learn a damn thing from reading a book. The words sort of swim together and I can't get a grasp of them at all. I've seriously never met a person less inclined to visual learning than I, which is odd because I have eyes like a damn hawk. I mean (and this is very embarrassing to me) it took me almost eight years to figure out what Waiting for Godot was actually about...
Once I grasp philosophy, I really become quite conversant in it. I just need to hear it described to me. Not quoted at me, but explained. Then I can usually go back and read it and figure out what the words mean.

It's just how some people's brains work. I don't learn anything unless I write it out longhand AND shorthand and then colour it all in with multicoloured pens in the right shades as they sound. With me, that's how I get round my dyslexia, by combining effort and synaethesia mechanisms. But my brother is like you, he learns really well by recording stuff and listening back to it. He often records his discussions in learning groups and then plays them back for revision, sometimes butting in with a different argument that he 'should have said at the time'. He and I both do philosophy in an official 'studenty' way.
So I wouldn't worry - I think philosophy is just one of those things that is uniquely personal when studied.
Plus I still don't understand, or know if I want to understand Waiting for Godot. But then... I've read and loved James Joyce's Ulysses more times than most people start it so maybe that reclaims some snob points.

Waiting for Godot. You spend your whole life waiting and nothing happens. Why? Because you are the agent of change within your own life. It's existentialism at its finest.
I hate existentialism.
I do like Heidegger. And I LOVE political theory. My Rousseaus and Hobbeses and Lockes and Machiavellis and Montesquieus. I love Burke, too. I think I agree with him most. And Paine. Oh and I like Hegel...

Hegel and I are going to create academic love children by artificially inseminating his work into cognitive literary theory.

I have dyslexia too. I can learn in the visual much better then the audial, but my best learning method is kinesthetic. I have to actually try something myself in some way to fully understand the concept of it.

In a few months, you can get the new Blackberry. It's actually got the fastest browser out there. And it's already sold out in London.
I have number dyslexia, not word. I just literally cannot comprehend what I am reading sometimes. I'm understanding each individual word, but when those words are put together into a sentence, sometimes I'm like "hunh?" and have to reread it. It's even happened with my own writing before.
