You did, which I appreciate. This is just one of those areas I'm not particularly strict about.

Then I have no idea what you want me to ask about and what I am allowed to do on my own.

Just ask whenever you're not sure and I'll give you an answer. The answer this time is: "Whatever floats your boat." The answer next time might be something far more specific. When in doubt, ask, is always my motto with regard to someone else's campfire.
And yes, Matt, there are doppelgangers. Members of the Night are taken prisoner and turned into evil doppelgangers of themselves. Essentially, the point is to ensure that the face of "evil" becomes synonymous with the Night itself, since the politicians of America want to get rid of the organization to save money.

I'm not usually in doubt. I just apparently do it wrong. x:

OK, then...ask when it has to do with the world or your character's place within it. Your own character and how they behave is typically up to you, but the way they interact with the world and within that world is subject to some rules.

Does my character have to be a soldier? Like know how to do all the soldier stuff (I know you said she could be in the infirmary).

I don't think she needs to be a soldier although I imagine most members of the Night would have basic training in self-defense, gun use etc. Think like... basic FBI training and then you specialise... Quaddy can probably elucidate on what that training would be but it would mean your character wouldn't be defenseless and would probably know how to turn those healing skills against an opponent if necessary.

That's more combat-y than I'd like her to be. x: Hmm.

I think I can make it work, but I'll wait for the specifics from Quadster first.

Matt is correct. Any member of the Night must be proficient in self-defense at the very latest, and certified in gun safety and usage. You don't have to be marksman or even expert level, but you do have to know how to use a firearm at the very least. Martial arts are also very common, though non-combatant members of the organization (like healers) learn purely to defend themselves. Your character, as a healer, would not be forced to turn her magickal abilities against someone--she is likely still bound by the Hippocratic Oath--but they would not censure her for using them in self-defense.
Basically, if you're defenseless, you're not a member of the Night.

No, no. Not defenseless. I just think she shies away from conflict and isn't much of a fighter. Like not very good at it because she doesn't devote much effort/time to the learning to hurt and incapacitate people. I think she can defend herself when pushed.
Is this okay?

That sounds about what Quaddy said yeah. I mean, it would make sense that a healer not really want to spend a lot of time causing harm to people. But it still keeps her with the bare minimum of Night Skillz.

*nods* Not wanting to fight is fine. Being able to defend herself is what's key.

What kind of military ranking are you going by? Army? Air Force? Navy?
|
|
|
Post by Quaddy on Feb 25, 2013 18:48:47 GMT -6
Army standard, but they have their own set of titles as well. Instead of Airmen, Seaman, etc, you have Shadows. They also don't have any of the various Private rankings (P1st class, etc). There are also special rankings--Spellweaver is a special ranking within the Night of the strongest magick-users, for example, and they are used for capture and containment of the most powerful enemies. It's not an officer ranking, persay, and gets them no authority over others. Shank is one, which is why he got to take down McCleod. MOST of the ranking officers of the organization are Spellweavers.

Soo about what rank are our characters?

|
|
Post by Quaddy on Feb 25, 2013 19:10:54 GMT -6
Well, you're a noncombatant, so I imagine you're a Corpsman like Nathaniel, though he is actually a member of the Navy without any healing ability at all. Corpsman Special Class probably, since you're a healer with actual healing ability.

I'm going to have to learn American Army Ranks aren't I?

Okie dokie. But I didn't think corpsman is an army rank. Of course all my experience is with Air Force, so there you go. xD

Corpsman is a rank for pretty much all the branches except the Marines, who use the Navy for their medical necessities while in the field. The Army prefers to differentiate by specialty--like cardiology, etc. But Medical First Response Specialist is an actual title. We're making it easy on ourselves by just using Corpsman.
And, yes Matt, darling. But you can literally just Google it and they'll list them.
