I'm watching Doctor Who right now. It's epic. The ending of this episode though? A little trite.
I tend to agree on the tragedy aspect - in the sense that I think it would be better if he did just die and maybe Rei can visit him in the Underworld or something but you know, he'd be free of his fears so.... It's part of the reason I almost want Kenaz to have a small unrequited love interest too that makes it hard for him but then makes it easy. I don't know. I'm sure lots of things will come up as the characters evolve anyway.

Hello all =)
I am totally pro the plans for Lux, btw. I definitely wanted to play with the struggle of wanting to do the right thing but being committed to the job at hand. Acting as a spy for the baddies would give me plenty of ammo for that. =)
When it comes to working her into the mix of characters, perhaps it would be simplest to have her working her job with Embry when he finds the map. She could be hired at that point to go with him and keep an eye on the others. By that point I think we could create enough of a relationship with Embry to make it seem plausible to bring her along.
If it would simplify things in introducing Toire to the group, maybe Lux could acquire him from the slavers in order to act as her escort. She would of course free him and hire him for this purpose. Maybe this would create a way to ease him into freedom and bring him into the group along with Lux?
What do you guys think?

Toire is meant to be Rei's underling, for lack of a better word. So Rei freeing Toire and him being attached to her from then on is totally good enough for me.
As far as Lux working for Embry, it makes sense that the baddies would be just as aware of the implications of Embry receiving that ring/finding the map as Shade and the Good Guys (I think I just came up with a band name-we should make t-shirts) are. So it follows that putting Lux on Embry in some fashion (perhaps in her capacity as a jeweler, actually) would make sense to see about keeping their investment safe. Her real job would be to watch Embry, stick with him, and then look for Shade's agent.
And David Tennant was a great Doctor, but Matt Smith is so adorable. And he has the benefit of the Moff, who is an amazing writer. He did all my favorites under 9 and 10, too, like "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances", "Blink", "The Girl in the Fireplace", "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead", and one more that I always forget. Those have always been my favorite 9/10 episodes, anyway.
I feel like Moff didn't concentrate so much on the first four episodes. He's saving it all for "The Angels Take Manhattan" and then the new Companion. Oswyn was the best part of the first episode. If the Statue of Liberty ends up being a Weeping Angel, I am going to have nightmares for the rest of my life.
Seriously.
About Kenaz, whatever ends up working, I think. That's pretty far down the line. Who knows? Maybe friendship with Rei and respect for Shade will be enough to make him not want to die?

So...having just watched the new episode of DW, I agree with Matt. Kinda trite, definitely rushed. I really do feel like Moffat was like, "someone just write some episodes to fill in the time between 'Asylum of the Daleks' and 'The Angels Take Manhattan' so I can concentrate on the second half of the series". I did enjoy how the Doctor finally said outright how important the Ponds are to him. Hmm, it just read like a set-up episode, which I guess it sort of was.
Seriously, though, I want Moffat to get back to writing series arcs. We still have that prophesy to deal with and the first question to ask and answer, silence to bring crumbling down, etc. What I love about Moffat is his arcs and, as he hasn't written the last three episodes, I really feel like he's saving the arc for the second half and the new companions.
I want it to be Christmas.

Apologies if it was awful. I left the rescue of Toire to either Matt or Beast (for next round, obviously), depending on who wanted to do it. I thought an introduction to Shade and the plot was in order.

I hope that means it's good.
I'll have to write from Shade's POV soon. As of right now, he is intrigued by Rei, but he is still acting with the assumption that Rei will have to sacrifice herself for him to be reborn. As the story progresses, he will begin to change the balance of her blood so that she can survive. And she will shed her chains, but willingly remain at his side. Eventually, they actually admit the lurve one another. And they will kiss with TONGUES.
(Please tell me someone here is an Eddie Izzard fan.)

I adore Izzard! I just wish I understood more then 70% of his jokes... /sad/
As for your post. I feel shamed by how wonderfully engineered it was. I must try harder and better my styles again, I am far too rusty to hold a light to you.
And Shade (Who I nicknamed / The Shaded One / in my notes)! I like him VERY much so! I'm eager to know him and see him more in the future! My excitement to know Elysia and see of her has exorbitantly risen as well! I'm sure she'll be miraculously wondrously dreamy with that barely see-able hint of nightmare.

Yeah...I'm an Anglophile with a History degree. Izzard tells his jokes to an audience of me sometimes. But the evil giraffe walk is one of the funniest things ever. Just the sheer, calculated silliness of it.
"Bad dog. Stole a biscuit. Stole the entire contents of the table. Bad dog..."
"Who are you to judge me...?"
Oh, Eddie.
I'm glad you liked it. I was a bit worried. It's hard to know how "mysterious" you're being when you know exactly what everything means and I was trying to drop a few hints--like Aeon wanting to be a god during the earlier conversation, Elysia's gift coming with a cost, Dreams (Elysia) holding all the power, Shade needing to die and being trapped, the fact that the priesthoods don't always reflect their god, Shade/Rei's relationship, etc--without being too obvious about it. But since I know what everything means, it all seems ridiculously ham-handed.
I'm glad you liked it. As for Elysia, I agree. I would love to see this wonderfully beautiful, flowy, dreamy woman with hard eyes and a malicious streak a mile wide. And I want Shade to be wonderfully kind, steady, comforting, etc, but terribly lonely and sometimes cold because of his role and how people are fearful and disdainful of him and his role. So the one everyone thinks is good is crooked and the one everyone fears is wonderful.
I love Shade. Seriously. I think I might have channeled far too much of my love of Cotillion (God of Assassins in the Malazan Book of the Fallen) into him. Damn you, Steven Erikson! You're taking over my psyche!

Sybeline, Mynt? I was thinking, did you want to invite a couple of other people to take the burden off of the two of us?

No, no. Fall the God. I still have to finish up that one. Sorry it's taking so long. And if you really want to, you can add more people to Sybeline. It will save us from having to make up too many side characters, yes?

Let me officially state that I completely understand the back up of posts being due. As long as you make sur eI know when your posts to mine will be delayed I have no issue.
So thank you for the update Mynt. I've no problem extending your timeframe, especially since the post is on hold for one of Quad's(who I adore at this point) CFs.

As for Shade I've always thought while Death Gods are often frightening in appearance, it is often due to one of two things, first that people's assumptions have shaped their appearance, or second that they are so worn down from their work and receive so very little worship as I'm mostly of the opinion that gods, such as the Greek gods require belief to survive and worship to excel. thus inspires their most charitable and insidious schemes.

I *am* wonderful, aren't I? *preen*
Aaaaaaaand that's a wrap on that.
I agree with you totally with regard to the image we hold of gods. Ironically enough, Hades was meant to look quite a bit like a "darker" version of Zeus. He was feared, of course, as all Death gods are, but he was also revered and respected, and the Greeks never thought of him as "evil", so to speak. Same with Odin, who fed on gallows' dead, or a couple of the aspects of the Morrigan. They were feared, but they were never considered evil. It's only with the advent of Christianity and Satan (and the notion that Hell is under ground, along with the domain of Hades/Pluto, as the Romans were instrumental in "creating" Christianity in the first place). At some point, the "grim reaper", who, while not the god of Death, is the collector of souls, came to dominate our psyche. I might have to look into that...where the grim reaper myths begin. And so a lot of our perceptions have been dominated by these archetypes.
Shade is none of these. In fact, I kind if pictured these gods as being more like God God; they don't require human believe to exist. They just like it. But certain things--like names, for example, or the actions of their priesthood--can sometimes stick.

Thank you, beast. I'm going to have time to do some writing over the weekend since all my current big projects for class have been turned in (or will be this week). It doesn't help, I'm sure, that I am eternally slow. Ask Quaddy. Poor Quaddy. She puts up with so much.
