So he's a dragon breeder/hatchery overseer and for military purposes he'd be in charge of training them for combat and building/maintaining their facilities.
What about your Quaddy? Your character gonna have a job aside from Tyrant lover? lol

Eziel Roland Harwick
"Ezi"
Age: 19
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 183 lbs
Hair: Blond of the brightest shade of gold
Eyes: A dark yet lush forest green
Tone/Build: Tan from working and training outside since he was young. His build is lean and compact. Taught young muscle with little bulk save the shoulders and calves.
Residence: New Ordellia (Central City of Imyr)
Social Standing/Education: Noble. Well bred. Eziel was raised a knight albeit a spoiled one even if it was against his will to be coddled so.
Occupation: Eziel is enrolled in military school and is being groomed to be a military officer which he hates. When not in class he is essentially a 'beat cop'. On patrol and making sure things are running smoothly. Given his attitude towards the laws of the tyrant, he's pretty crap at this job. Luckily it isn't taken into much consideration.
Hobbies: He participates in any and all tournaments he can enter involving a blade. He has never lost a match and has yet to be pushed to his fullest efforts.
History/Motivation: His father blindly follows the orders and dictation of the tyrant. He has killed, tortured, and terrorized just to fulfill orders. Eziel knows his father doesn't agree with these things or necessarily want to do them, but for all his strength he refuses to act out of fear. Eziel hates that fear. He feels his skills are worthless if he doesn't use them to change things for the better.
Eziel's strongest motivation came when he was very young. One of his best friends was the son of a priest from the local temple and constantly pushed the concept of actions as right and wrong on Eziel who took a strong affinity to the concept that seemed lost to so many in the city. Whent he tyrant outlawed religion the temple and his friend's home were burned down. He has never again seen him.
Powers: None to speak of aside from almost unnatural skill with a blade that seems divinely mandated as if the gods themselves crafted his body to wield a sword. Timing, accuracy, strength, speed. All of them are at the peak of the perception of all but the most masterful of swordsmen.
His knowledge of magic is atrociously shallow.

Myr Isaiah Hydall (named after the land meaning "For the Land" in Imyrian)
Age (At death): 19
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 189 lbs
Hair: Brown and straight with a short ponytail
Eyes: Black
Tone/Build: Slight tan and built strong cut lean and fit with just enough fat to frame his muscles.
Residence: Ordellia (Central City of Imyr)
Social Standing/Education: Street urchin. Raised in poverty and homelessness.
Occupation: He was the stable cleaner for the local knights of the now late tyrant. He learned to use a sword by watching them. He learned to ride a horse at night. He learned how to take a beating when he was caught learning.
Hobbies: Practicing swordplay and reading books. He stole some magic books from the royal library once and learned rudimentary healing spells.
History/Motivation: Growing up poor and looked down on he soon grew tired of watching good people suffer while the corrupt and or downright wicked thrived. The final straw came when his father was executed for a crime he didn't commit because a man paid off the guards to arrest someone else. His mother died soon after.
Once he was old enough to hold his own in the world he began traveling and recruiting those who shared his desire to dethrone the Tyrant. He recruited them in various ways and eventually staged a rebellion but was killed in a large battle on the way to the castle itself. He opted to sacrifice himself rather than his comrades and in the end it crumbled his dream of freeing his fellow man.
History books demonize him as a villain and coward but some illegal/secret tales exist that depict the events and their romanticized versions.
Powers: His charisma was incredible. He was handsome and had the 'Voice of the Emperor' in his throat. His skills in battler showed of godly intuition and tact. His ability to recruit and lead was uncanny.

I should probably be clearer.
My character is married to the current King. She was a member of the first group that failed, but then the second leader (the one who is NOW King/Tyrant) met and fell in love with her. He thought it would be a wonderful bit of politics to marry someone from the old group, so they married (she is perhaps three or four years older than he). For a while, it was good, but then he became increasingly more tyrannical. He never harmed her because he was ever conscious of the politics of things, but they definitely fell out of love. She never left, not only because she was kind of trapped, but also because she really didn't care enough to leave. Her heart was already broken when her quest failed (and she lost a great friend), but to have the man she loved turn into a tyrant...it drained her of all hope. Survival is all she cares about now.
So, technically, she's the Queen. I suppose that's enough of a job, right?
I was thinking the King (her husband) is a master tactician, with an empathic ability (to fuck with peoples' emotions). He was also knowledgeable in alchemy, which I was thinking he used to take down the old Tyrant, when it morphed into poisons.
And my character, I was thinking, as a bit of an attendant ability, is a bit of prescience. An "intuitive ability" on the battlefield. She doesn't quite see what someone is going to do, but she gets powerful, intuitive feelings about how someone is going to act. And she reacts to them. Kind of like...Spidey senses.
I'll have a bio eventually.

So guys how about the past recruiting process? How did your characters meet Myr? How did he recruit them? How was their relationship?

Eirgyle Moroft Salesh
Age: 46 (at death)
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 213lbs
Hair: Dark brown/black
Eyes: Dark brown
Tone/Build: Dark Tan
Residence: Ordellia
Social Standing/Education: King and 'Future Emporer' and Raised in poverty and thrown into war. Little real education. Religious but has no fear of the gods.
Occupation: Ruler.
Hobbies: Military Strategy books.
History/Motivation: Raised the eastern Kingdom of the Sands Ashamarus he was raised in virtual homelessness and outcast status. His family was seen as disposable but after he was caught one day stealing bread and fought back actually managing to take one of the guards swords the captain was impressed with his resolve and took him from his home after executing the failed guard and appointed Eirgyle his position. He was raw and ruthless in combat and was thrown into war.
He received some renown as a warrior but was never given the credit he deserved for his sacrifice and efforts in the field. After hearing that his family had been killed in a raid he snapped and killed his commanding officer in the night. He rallied the men of his squadron and went on to secure a fort for himself taking supplies and weapons before fleeing.
They arrived at the city of Ordellia disguised as settlers. Eirgyle was brought before the king and began to plead for refuge while outside his men killed the guards and made their way into castle. The king was held hostage for several days with several of his subjects killed every few hours in an attempt to get him to relinquish the throne.
He would not.
Eirgyle's dominance of the situation and threats to the families and lives of his enemies won them over with fear and soon he had control of Ordellia.
The first significant rebellion happened nearly ten years later by Myr and his party of heroes. Eirgyle's men captured Myr at the gates in a large battle and brought him to the throne room where Eirgyle killed the injured and beaten hero in single combat. Afterward he placed Myr's head on the steeple of the church nearby.
The second rebellion happened soon after while Eirgyle's forces were somewhat tattered and low on moral and health. This second rebellion succeeded and ended when Eirgyle himself was killed in a secret room within the castle. Though his crown and ring were recovered, everything else that remained of him was ash. Both of Eirgyle's battles with the heroes have been speculated on and romanticized but never confirmed with accurate description.
He left behind several illegitimate children and 2 of whom he acknowledged that were both killed in arms defending him.

Abner Caskull Oran (parenthesis indicates after becoming tyrant)
Age: 39
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 180lbs
Hair: Dark Red. Short straight, well kept. (Wavy, hanging in his eyes. Long ponytail.)
Eyes: Hazel
Tone/Build: Thin with little fat but not much muscle either. (Slight but very little fat consisting of tight muscle on his thin frame. Fair skin.)
Residence: New Ordellia Central City of Imyr
Social Standing/Education: Noble. Well bred. Raised a scholar and chemist. Admired the strength of the king's knights even through their dark acts. (Ruler. Totalitarian. Highly Feudalistic as well. Conqueror. Still very well educated.)
Occupation: Apothecary's apprentice. Taken from his poor family very young after his mother asked the apothecary to take him in to escape poverty. (Ruler. Commander in Chief.)
Hobbies: Studying alchemy and practicing with a sword and shield. (Keeping skills sharp. Leading conquest.)
History/Motivation: Grew up mixing potions and remedies dreaming of a better life for himself and everyone under Eirgyle's rule. After hearing about the first rebellion taking place he became excited and sought to gather his own men and women of skill and join the cause. By the time he'd gotten through to enough inspired individuals Myr was killed. Unable to shake his ambition Abner continued with his plans and rode the coattails of Myr's struggle to victory meeting Eirgyle in single combat and killing him. Given the option with no real heirs, he usurped the throne using his men and city elders as council.
After a few years his idealism changed. Things did not seem so bleak anymore. Everything was brightening, and it was all his doing. He had shaped the city into something better and the people had grown complacent where before they were forced to have the strength to persevere in order to live. Now living -such a precious gift- was easy. Taken for granted. Abner made life harder on them not allowing them to be rewarded with life without struggle. He had fought their battle and he had secured their place in the world. He deserved to live and live well. They did not. Neither did other prosperous cities with smiling people unable to hold their own. With that, he began his conquest of Imyr.

Hey, in order to figure out how old my character should be...how many years ago did Myr die? I was thinking something like 20, which would have made Abner pretty much the same age. Maybe a few months younger, but just about the same age. Then, he would have been ruling for about 18 years, assuming his rebellion succeeded two years after Myr's failed?
Because I was thinking of making my character Myr's younger sister. That would explain how she was recruited in the first place, and would give more depth as to Abner choosing her and why she would be so devastated by his loss.
Well, I'm going to post my character now, and then I'll change things up if you don't like the timeline.
Lyn Mariah Oran (nee Hydall)
Age: 17 at time of original rebellion, 19 when she married Abner, 37 at time of story
Height: 5'8
Weight: 150lbs
Hair: Dark brown, wavy, braided as a young woman, but now bound in more intricate styles.
Eyes: Black, with flecks of blue
Tone/Build: Naturally pale, but tanned from years outdoors. Long limbed, with ample curves balanced by lean muscles earned from years of training. Perhaps those curves are a bit more ample now (after giving Abner a male heir and three daughters), but she is still in fighting shape.
Residence: New Ordellia Central City of Imyr
Social Standing/Education: Born to a working class family (Myr is her elder brother), Lyn was educated better than even her brothers in order to attract a husband as far above her station as possible. She was very pretty and very smart, so the education only added to the appeal.
Occupation: Now she's the Queen/Empress, depending on which title Abner wants to use at any given time. In her youth, she was essentially trained to be the perfect wife. Reading, writing, poetry, sewing, riding, numbers (in case she married a merchant), cooking, embroidery, archery, falconry, etc. All the "feminine arts". Lyn also served as Myr's training partner, which is how she learned the sword.
Hobbies: Swordplay. Not just swordplay, but all swords of blades. Anything with a sharp edge, Lyn is quite fond of. She has also maintained her archery skills, and quite enjoys reading and going bird hunting.
History/Motivation: Lyn was born to a very poor family, but once she was born, everyone knew that she was their ticket out of poverty. She was a beautiful child who grew into a beautiful young lady, and began attracting the attentions of much wealthier men. As such, her family had her sent to a wealthier cousin to study all of the womanly arts. She took to these like a fish takes to water, and entered her teens as quite easily one of the most sought after young women in the city.
What no one knew was that her elder brother (Lyn's favorite sibling, whom she practically worshiped, and whom she looked almost exactly alike) Myr was training to be a true swordsman, and it was Lyn he practiced with throughout the night (especially after he was caught and beaten at the palace). Her skills with the sword came to match his, and she even began working on her skills with other weapons whenever she had a chance. As he became ever more disenchanted with the world, Myr began learning tactics and leadership, and Lyn, determined to be of some use to the brother she worshiped, learned every skill she could to support him.
When their father was executed for a crime he didn't commit, Myr decided he needed to leave. He got precisely one day out of town before Lyn caught up to him. And no matter how much he tried, he could never get rid of his little sister. She followed him through thick and thin, the big brother she worshiped and loved. When his rebellion failed, when he was taken from her and his head mounted on the tower, Lyn's heart broke. Some said *she* broke that day, and never fully recovered.
It was not long after this that Abner, the young man who finally finished Myr's struggle and toppled the Tyrant Eirgyle, came into her life. He was young and handsome and, while he definitely couldn't replace her brother in her heart, Abner and Lyn fell in love, and Abner took her for his Queen. For many years, they were very happy together. And then Abner changed, becoming more and more tyrannical, and more and more distant. Their marriage fell apart, and Lyn's heart broke again. Losing her brother, losing the man she loved, and losing the ideals that Myr had died for all proved to be too much for Lyn to handle. She slipped into depression and took up drinking as a hobby, though she manages to hold it together for her children. Most people consider her a broken woman.

Oops, sorry. One more.
Powers: Lyn shared Myr's intuition in battle. In fact, she has the ability to foresee what her opponent will do in the moments before he does them. It allows her to prepare her next move. This does not negate her hard won skills, which she has maintained and added to over the years. In her time, she was an even better swordsman than her brother, acting as she did as his bodyguard. She has also learned something of alchemy from her husband.

Maybe Makaelum knew Myr when they were young before he went off to join the dragon riders? They could have been neighbors. He was born in Bronwynn but was brought to Ordellia as a child and grew up till his early teens there before joining his father in the league of riders.
They could have been friends for a little while, then when he rose up against the old tyrant and convinced the riders to join his cause Makaelum was selected as a representative as he's always had a gift for strategy in battle and has one of the fastest dragon mounts ever recorded. So he's great for relaying orders and intel.
As for Eziel, I;'m not sure how they'd meet unless Eziel is tracking down the last of the dragon riders and heard the rumor of one living in the nearby mountains?

I think the easiest way to meet her would be to visit her in the palace, as a petitioner. When it comes to running her household (the Queen's Household), she has complete discretion. Perhaps he approaches as a petitioner in some fashion, and she denies him, so he keeps finding ways to track her down (when she's hunting, when she's out visiting the townsfolk, etc) until he wears her down and she joins.
As for the children, there are three daughters and a son. The son is the eldest child at seventeen, and he is named Mykel. The daughters are Lisbet, 15, Lydia, 12, and the youngest is Beatrice at nine.

For Makaelum I'd see him being separated for a bit before Myr comes to recruit him (since they already knew each other). If that's the road you want to go down with it that's fine with me. So a sister and a childhood friend, that's not a bad start.
As for the kids awesome that's fine, but that leaves them to be used as ammunition against her later in the story if they're left behind.

|
Post by Quaddy on Aug 21, 2012 22:30:40 GMT -6
That's the point. Mykel is becoming so much like his father that it actually becomes a catalyst for her to join the cause. She sees her children growing up to be cruel (Mykel) or victimized (her daughters--especially Lisbet, who is sweet and soft-hearted), and she can't stand for that to happen. Before she leaves, she manages to smuggle her daughters out of the palace and off to a temple she's helped fund for years, but she can't get her son out. I was actually thinking that Mykel plays a role in Abner's ultimate demise. I mean, either Lyn or Mykel should be the one to take him down, simply because they're the ones that have suffered the most under him. Mykel killing him would be part of a redemption story, and Lyn as part of a personal justice story.
