Alius: Human in appearance but slightly paler and less muscled normally. They have harder, denser bones than humans. When they smell humans their brains releases a chemical called augere that is extremely potent and bulks out their muscle fibers and sort of releases the inhibitions the brain naturally sets as a limiter on certain functions. A fit or athletic Alius hyped up on augere can kill a human with it's bare hands with relative ease in hand to hand combat (accounting equal skill of a low caliber) an Alius pumping both augere AND adrenaline (which for them is a voluntary response) can tear a full grown man in half. Alius brains are different as well and all the important stuff is located in the center of the mass effectively making the fatty outer area of the brain a cushion. They are very difficult to kill with blunt force to the head as their skulls are exceptionally difficult to crack.
Alius eat human flesh for food and it is very healthy for them. They can also eat pork, beef, and chicken or fish, but anything but human flesh will result in a bit of a weakening in them and also has side effects of depression, nausea, and indigestion in large quantities. After a long time however, an Alius can adapt to eat these things without having the effects so often or as severe. They will always crave human meat.
Alius genetics more often than not overtake human genes in reproduction. Half breeds are literally 1 in a million. Half breeds will crave human meat, but can eat pork and other things without ill effects. Their bodies are otherwise like that of the Alius only they can have a G-gene.
LSO: Last Stand Operatives.
The active members of the LSO are the apex of human training and physical conditioning, even the civilian positions were very well trained both physically and mentally. The LSO is all that remains of all things of martial origin in human hands. Martial arts, war tactics, military training, everything. The Alius assimilated what they liked and the rest was cast into non-existence. The LSO has had 4 leaders, the last of which was Astor the Lion and currently is Regan. The LSO's mission is to reestablish humanity in the world as a civilization as opposed to the food source and will accept nothing less than full cooperation. They will not accept leaving any people as food for the Alius, they strive to be totally free and not held as cattle or lesser creatures. Tattoos are extremely prevalent in the LSO.
Humans: Humans have been reduced to slaves of many types. We are beasts of burden, personal slaves, sex slaves, and otherwise demeaning and oppressed positions. Sex slaves are not eaten, but if they get out of line they are strangled or their collars are activated. The bulk of the human population exists as slaves or cattle to Alius masters, the rest exists as renegades or in the care of the LSOHQ.
Mak Shii: The Mak Shii are a terrorist sect of Alius who do not answer to the Houses of Terra Novus. They wish for their own State within Terra Novus and their motivations beside that are somewhat mysterious. They also use humans as suicide bombers and some as soldiers. These humans are called Umue which is supposedly a language spoken by the most primitive Alius roughly meaning "Unwashed". These are humans who have somehow impressed the Mak Shi into thinking they are better assets among their warriors than as food. They are most en masse in the former Arab Nations and Australia.
Ghost Faction: Ghost Faction is a splinter part of the LSO that was lost after being discovered by the Alius special group known as the Memento Mori. Astor was killed retrieving most of the operatives, all others are believed to have been lost in the subsequent leveling of the city. Ghost faction exists isolated beneath the remains of the city doing what they can, when they can, with what they can. During the time of the story they sort of don't care about assimilating with the main branch of the LSO. They're scary badass. It's like an entire faction of Wolverine or something.
G-gene: A gene discovered to have come with the evolution of human beings that differs from person to person. It was discovered by an LSO scientist several years ago, and since the gene hasn't fully developed in humans yet each operative must undergo a development process for it that can take anywhere from 1 week to 1 year. Average time is about two months. Alius do not have this. G-gene abilities include but are certainly not limited to: molecular regeneration(still takes a while), ability to lower vital signs to avoid detention devices, heightened mental processing.
